Women of the Japanese Underground

Photography artist Chloe Jafe has captured intimate images of Japanese underground figures.
In 2013, while working as an escort in Tokyo, Chloe Jafe meets the boss of the local mafia. In the next six years, the French photographer documented women married to members of the Yakuza, for her project "To give life".
The images show the hidden sides of the women of the Japanese underworld, including the tattoos that cover their bodies.
"They look like shields, 'omamori' in Japanese, which are like protectors," says Jafe.
Details about this project can be seen in the video prepared for the BBC by Andrea Savorani Neri and Eleonore. /Telegrafi/
