The United States Embassy in Kosovo has welcomed the agreement on the implementation of the Law on Foreigners, reached between Kosovo and the European Union.

In a response to the Telegraph, the embassy emphasized that any change that affects the Kosovo Serb community must be made in close consultation with its members.

The US has also appreciated the commitment of all parties to reach a solution acceptable to all.

"We welcome the announcement of the agreement reached on the implementation of the Law on Foreigners. We appreciate the commitment of the parties to reach an acceptable solution. Any changes that affect the Kosovo Serb community should be made in close consultation with its members," an embassy spokesperson told Telegraf.

The Kosovo government announced on March 14 that it will offer temporary residence permits and recognize the ID cards of Kosovo Serbs who do not yet have Kosovo documents, according to the Law on Foreigners and the Law on Vehicles. This decision entered into full force and has been implemented since March 15.

The decision was adopted after a meeting between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and EU Special Envoy Peter Sorensen, as part of efforts to facilitate law enforcement.

The law on foreigners and on vehicles began to be partially implemented on January 15, initially through an information campaign, and is now fully enforceable.

According to the law, all those without documents must be issued with a residence permit, while vehicles with foreign license plates cannot circulate for more than three months without authorization. For Kosovo Serbs, these rules will be implemented gradually, with a 12-month grace period.

Prime Minister Kurti said that temporary permits will enable health and education workers to continue working, providing basic services to the community until all documents are in order. /Telegraph/
