The Army of North Macedonia marks the 33rd anniversary of its establishment

North Macedonia marks the 33rd anniversary of the formation of the Army today. The solemn ceremony is expected to be held today at the "Jane Sandanski" barracks in Shtip, where, in addition to the head of state, the Minister of Defense, Vlado Misajlovski, and the Chief of the Army, Sasko Lafchiski, will also participate.
On the occasion of Army Day, last night at the "Ilinden" barracks in Skopje, an artillery salute was performed by six cannons of the Army artillery battalion.
The Army's birthday is August 18, the day when the "Mirce Acev" battalion was formed in Slavej Planina in 1943, which is considered the first organized military formation of the Macedonian People's Army. The process of forming the modern Macedonian Army, however, began in 1992, when the then President Kiro Glogorov, with the leadership of the Yugoslav People's Army, signed the agreement on the withdrawal of the federal army from the territory of the Republic of Macedonia.
The North Macedonian Army today is an integral part of the larger collective security system after the Republic of North Macedonia in March 2020 became the 30th full member of NATO.
