NATO meets in Brussels - defense, Ukraine and Western Balkans in focus of ministerial meeting

Allied Defense Ministers to Meet on February 12 2026 at NATO headquarters in Brussels, as part of the next ministerial meeting. The meeting will be chaired by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
The focus of the discussions is expected to be support for Ukraine, strengthening the defense of the Alliance's eastern flank, and implementing commitments to increase defense spending.
At the NATO 2025 Summit, allied countries committed to investing 5% of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) each year in defense and security by 2035.

"On 12 February, NATO Defence Ministers will meet in Brussels to assess progress made since the Hague Summit, including how they are fulfilling commitments to increase defence investment and defence industrial production, to strengthen our deterrence and defence, and to sustain our support for Ukraine. They will discuss preparations for the next NATO Summit in Ankara, which will take place on 7-8 July 2026. Ministers will also discuss continued support for Ukraine - whose security is closely linked to the security of the Alliance - at a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council, with Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas," the statement from NATO officials said.
A NATO statement said that the ministers are also expected to exchange views on the implementation of all Alliance-led missions and activities, including KFOR, which is NATO's longest-running and currently largest mission.
"We expect the Defense Ministers to also exchange views on the implementation of all NATO-led missions and activities, including KFOR. The Western Balkans remains high on NATO's agenda. It is a region of strategic importance for the Alliance. NATO works to promote stability, security and cooperation in the region. Our commitment to the stability of the region is unwavering and we will not allow a security vacuum to be created," NATO said, reports Telegrafi.
