Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has expressed his condolences over the assassination of the intelligence chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Khamenei said Major General Majid Khademi joined a "steadfast line of fighters and warriors" in sacrificing their lives.

In contrast, the young Khamenei has not been seen or heard from in public since he succeeded his father as supreme leader.

His statement comes after the Israeli military claimed responsibility for the assassination of the IRGC's intelligence chief, Seyyed Majid Khademi.

The Israel Defense Forces said he was "eliminated" in an attack in Tehran on Sunday.

"Khademi was one of the IRGC's most senior commanders and had accumulated extensive military and security experience over many years," the Forces said.

Israeli strikes have killed dozens of senior Iranian leaders, including Khamenei's father. /Telegraph/
