Ericsson to cut 1,600 jobs in Sweden

Swedish telecommunications group Ericsson has notified the Swedish Public Employment Service of a proposed reduction in the number of employees that could affect approximately 1,600 positions in Sweden.
The move is described as part of the company's efforts to strengthen its competitive position.
According to Ericsson, the proposed staff reduction is related to global initiatives aimed at improving the company's cost position, while maintaining investments in technological leadership and the execution of its long-term strategy.
The company has begun negotiations with the relevant Swedish unions.
Ericsson further states that initiatives to increase operational efficiency will continue across the group, but that these will not be communicated separately.
According to the company, the staff reduction is part of efforts to ensure the provision of high-performance programmable networks, with the aim of enabling increased service differentiation and new monetization opportunities.
Ericsson's Swedish organization currently employs approximately 13,222 people, meaning that around 12% of the workforce could be affected by the announcement.
The company has not specified what types of roles or business areas in Sweden could be affected by the proposed staff reductions. /Telegraph/
