Legendary Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu passed away today at the University Emergency Hospital in Bucharest, where he had been hospitalized since March 29.

The current Romania coach was 80 years old when he led his team to the semi-final of the World Cup play-offs against Turkey, making him the oldest coach to lead any country's national team in an official match.

He has been hospitalized for a week after fainting in the national team's locker room due to ventricular tachycardia while holding a technical meeting with the players.

He also suffered an acute myocardial infarction on Friday, shortly before being discharged from the hospital.
