The Constitutional Court has declared invalid the March 6 decree of President Vjosa Osmani dissolving the Kosovo Assembly.
According to the court's decision, MPs have 34 days to elect a new President, otherwise the Assembly will be automatically dissolved and early elections will be organized within 45 days.
The Constitutional Court's decision comes after earlier this month the Constitutional Court temporarily suspended until March 31 the decree of President Vjosa Osmani to dissolve the Parliament.
The request for the assessment of the constitutionality of the decree dissolving the Assembly was submitted by Prime Minister Albin Kurti on behalf of the Government.

LDK, in a Facebook post, announces that during this meeting, President Abdixhiku discussed the LDK's position on current political developments in the country, with particular emphasis on the situation created around the issue of the election of the President of the Republic and the role of Kosovo institutions in this process.
He underlined that the main responsibility for concluding this process belongs to the parliamentary majority, expressing his belief that this process should be resolved through a political agreement and not through imposition, while adding that LDK will enter every electoral process united and prepared.
27/03/2026 14:14- President's issue, Haxhiu: The session will continue when the conditions are created, serious discussions are needed
The Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, said in a statement to the media that the country does not need new elections and that serious discussions are needed on the issue of the president.
Haxhiu emphasized that the Vetëvendosje Movement has 66 votes, but it is insufficient for the president, as 80 votes are needed in the ballot box in the first two rounds.
"I think that this issue belongs to the parliamentary levels and groups, the discussions that will be held in this regard... on the other hand, on the day when we had an attempt to elect the president of the country on March 5, if we return to that session, I said at the end that the session will continue when the conditions are met... so I did not close the session... therefore the session will continue when the conditions are created," she said.
According to her, serious discussions are needed until then.

Former Constitutional Court judge Kadri Kryeziu has emphasized that the latest decision of the Constitutional Court on the decree of President Vjosa Osmani is final and mandatory to be implemented by all institutions.

The Vice President of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ardian Gjini, after the meeting of the AAK General Council, said that this party does not have votes for candidates who are already known for president.
Gjini, in a press conference, said that the Vetëvendosje Movement is preparing the ground to accuse other parties, while emphasizing that the process of electing the president will not be concluded without national elections.

Publicist Veton Surroi has provided a brief interpretation of the ruling of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo regarding the President's decree dissolving the Assembly, where the Court gave the Assembly another 34 days to elect the President.
He assessed that the Constitutional Court's finding that the President's decree "does not produce any legal effect" means that the Court found that there was no constitutional support for the dissolution of the Assembly to produce legal effect.
