26 years after the Night of Terror, Mitrovica remembers the victims and those expelled from the north

The Municipality of Mitrovica has announced that February 4, 2026 will mark the 26th anniversary of the Night of Terror, one of the most serious events for the Albanian residents of the north of the city, who in the period between February 3 and 4, 2000 faced violence, murder and ethnic cleansing.
According to the report, during this tragic event, 10 citizens were killed, 25 others were injured, while around 12,000 residents were forced to flee their homes in northern Mitrovica.
In honor of the pain, sacrifice and courage of the residents, the Municipality of Mitrovica has organized commemorative activities to be held on February 4, 2026.
The program includes the installation of a commemorative plaque at the new pedestrian bridge at 11:00, the opening of an exhibition with photographs from the Night of Terror at the Cultural Center at 12:00, and the lighting of candles at the new bridge at 12:30.
The Mayor of Mitrovica, Faton Peci, has made these activities public on the social network Facebook, inviting citizens to participate in this solemn commemoration.
