Few people know that the First Lady of Pristina was Stella Velle of Italian origin and the wife of the first prefect of Pristina, Hysen Prishtina, who governed with Pristina during the years 1941-'44.
Stella Velle-Prishtina, who in Pristina was known as Drita, was born on June 28, 1910 in the city of Avellino, Italy. She was a teacher by profession.
Hysen Prishtina was the son of the Prishtina noble, Xhemajl Beg Prishtina. He met his future wife in Italy, while he was studying agronomy in the Italian capital, Rome.
Hysen Prishtina married Mrs. Stella Velle in Italy in December 1941. Then they moved to Pristina and he was appointed prefect.
At the time when Hysen Prishtina governed with Pristina, Sami Frashëri High School was opened. A railway school and a tapestry factory were also opened.
Prefect Prishtina worked to give eastern Pristina an occidental appearance.
In November 1944 when the communists surrounded Prishtina, Hysen Prishtina and his family first migrated to Turkey where they lived for several years and later migrated to Toronto, Canada.
In November 1944, within four days, Prishtina experienced Bartholomew's Night. The communists massacred about 400 citizens originating from noble families, who had done a lot for the country even during the Ottoman Empire.
Hyseni and Stella left behind three sons and a daughter, all of whom are alive. The eldest son Fatosi has four sons: Agim, Ilir, Afrim and Ariani. The second son, Bashkimi, has a son, Adam, while the younger son, Fisnik, has a son, Luani, and daughters, Lirije and Adea. The only daughter Farija has a son Besim and a daughter Lule.
Descendants of Hysen Prishtina created successful businesses with great sacrifice. They enjoy great authority in Turkey and Canada.
The First Lady of Pristina, Stella Velle, lived to be 94 years old. He passed away on May 11, 2004 in Toronto. She was buried near her husband Hysen, who died on June 14, 1991. /Telegrafi/
