The statue of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the mercenary group Wagner, who died after organizing a rebellion against the Russian authorities, has been vandalized less than three weeks after it was unveiled.

Prigozhin was the head of the Wagner Group, which fought for Moscow in Ukraine.

He was vocal about how Putin and senior military leaders were managing the war, often complaining about a lack of ammunition, foreign media wrote, Telegraph reports.

In June 2023, Prigozhin organized a march on Moscow, in which he occupied military facilities in Rostov-on-Don.

However, he then called off his rebellion before reaching the capital.

Prigozhin died on August 23, 2023 after his private plane crashed in the Tver region north of Moscow.

He was buried in the Prokhorovsky cemetery of St. Petersburg.

And a life-size statue was built on that site and unveiled on June 1 of this year, which would have been his 62nd birthday.

But the monument was "destroyed".

White paint was thrown over the statue and a sex toy was placed in its hand.

Authorities in the city's Krasnogvardeysky district said the incident occurred on Friday, the Astra Telegram channel reported, and that "law enforcement agencies are dealing with the matter." /Telegraph/
