Andrey Arshavin put himself in the Arsenal history books some 15 years ago when he scored four goals in the Gunners' iconic 4-4 draw with Liverpool at Anfield.

His 90th-minute goal looked to have secured the three points for Arsene Wenger's side, but a goal from Yossi Benayoun in the 93rd minute saw the two sides share the points in what was a shootout. fatal to Liverpool's title hopes that year.

That famous night at Anfield was arguably the highlight of Arshavin's career in London, making him the most expensive player in the club's history as Arsenal paid €15 million for his services to Zenit Petersburg, where he spent nine years.

While the Russian international did not win a trophy in his first four years at the Emirates, he scored 31 goals in 144 games and remained in the memory of many fans of the English club.

He left Russia for the third time, moving to Kazakhstan, where he spent the last years of his career in the ranks of Kairat, before 'hanging up his boots' in 2018.

Arshavin retired from football, but still remained connected to it. He took on an administrative role at Zenit which he held since 2019.
