The BRICS organization, created as an alternative to Western economic blocs, is often seen as pro-Russian and anti-Western, dominated by Russia and China.

One of the anti-Western tendencies of the BRICS is trade in the national currencies of the member countries of the organization, to reduce the impact of the dollar on international trade, which is being actively promoted by Russia and China.

But what has the NATO member forgotten?

Turkey's relations with the West are complex, if not icy. The Turkish leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, demonstrates authoritarian tendencies while his speeches are increasingly filled with anti-Western rhetoric.

It is also worth noting that Turkey actively supports Palestine and strongly criticizes US ally Israel on the world stage. Turkey's active support for Azerbaijan and rhetoric against Armenia, which is also trying to become an active ally of the US, is also a striking indicator.

The West sees Turkey as an ally of the situation. Erdogan has long demonstrated for Western countries such an important trait as - making treaties. Moreover, Turkey was perceived as a neutral zone for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, which have already been held there twice in March 2022 in Istanbul and Antalya.

At the same time, anti-Western sentiments regarding the Palestinian conflict are growing in Turkey. Moreover, Erdogan considers it an insult that Turkey is not being accepted into the European Union, but is only feeding on rhetoric. This is probably the reason why it is turning towards the east.

Another possible reason for joining BRICS is the Turkish desire to bargain with the West and sell loyalty at a slightly higher price.

But can this be called a complete rapprochement with Russia? Very unlikely.

If Turkey is in conflict with the West, this does not mean that it is ready to be friends with Russia. It is ready to befriend anyone who will pay for this friendship. This is the essence of Erdogan's policy.

However, it is worth noting that BRICS membership could ultimately damage Turkey's relations with NATO and the EU, which would create new tensions between the allies.
