Trump, phone conversation with Putin - gave him a warning about the war in Ukraine
President-elect Donald Trump reportedly held a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday to discuss the war in Ukraine, according to reports.
The Washington Post cites a source familiar with the call as saying that Trump warned Putin against escalating the conflict and reminded him of the substantial US military presence in Europe.
According to "several" other sources, the pair also discussed the goal of peace on the continent, as well as the prospect of a further call soon to consider a solution to the war in Ukraine," Telegraph reports.
WP said two sources indicated that the Ukrainian government had been informed of Putin's call - and did not object to the conversation taking place. Sky News.
But Sky News writes that it has not independently verified WP's reporting.
On Friday, the Kremlin said Putin was willing to discuss Ukraine with Trump — but that did not mean he was willing to budge on Moscow's demands — namely that Ukraine give up its ambitions to join NATO. and hand over the four territories currently held by Russia.
Meanwhile, according to Sky News, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has said that Kiev was not provided with any advance notice of a reported phone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
The Foreign Office spokesman said it was "impossible" that Ukraine had approved or opposed the summons, as reports suggesting there was advance notice were "false". /Telegraph/
