TIFF opens

The seventh edition of the International Film Festival in Tirana (TIFF '09) opened on Friday night in the hall of the National Theater with the screening of the film "Honeymoon" (2009) by the Serbian director Goran Paskaljevic, present at the premiere.

In the meeting with the media, the director of the festival, Ilir Butka, affirmed that "it is an edition that carries many innovations", mentioning the competition category of the long film, for the first time.

Until December 6, about 15 feature films are projected in the large hall of the National Theater, among which "Plato's Academy" by the Greek director Filippos Tsitos, "Devils town" by Vladimir Paskaljevìc (Serbia), "Cold Souls" by Sophie Barthes (France ). In the small theater hall, the public can see the screening of about 100 short films divided into fiction, documentary and animated sections. And there are nearly 30 Albanian authors of this genre of film.

For the special program of the festival, one of the designers of the program, Genc Përmeti mentioned the screening of three films by the Greek director Teos Angjelopoulos "Eternity and a day" (1998), "Lanscape in the mist" (1988) and "Ulysses' Gaze" ( 1995). According to the organizers, the Greek director confirmed his position on the last day of the festival.


Permeti said that the Chinese cinema of the 70s will be presented with the films "From Victory to Victory" (1952), "Crossing the Jance River" (1974), "The East is Red" (1965).

Focused on the general ideas about the festival, how the public votes, the screening of films on a paid platform, the organizers overshadowed the program itself for the public, the times and dates of the main events of this festival, the guests, the jury and the tribute that this festival is dedicated to the Albanian director, Viktor Gjika, who passed away in March of this year. "White Streets" (1974), "Light Commissioner" (1966), "The Debate" (1961) are shown at TIFF.

The meeting was closed by the programmer of international films, Thomas Logoreci with the words "This is a festival overflowing with films, overflowing with values". But the people in the first place cannot be deprived of the right to be informed, not to mention that the "mysteries" of this lack of information even for the media themselves, the organizers call them "surprises". /Century/
