Three things you should never do after a breakup

If you've recently ended a relationship, there are some things you should never do after a breakup.

Relationship expert Paige Moyce shared what you should avoid to get through a difficult time.

Avoid other possible relationships

The first thing you should avoid is other relationships, and you should follow this rule for the first two months after the breakup.

“You're in 'rebound mode' and if someone comes along and makes you feel good during that time, you immediately connect with them because it's a positive thing happening in your life,” Moyce said.

While this may get you away from the breakup at least for a moment, it's not a good thing because you need to recover emotionally, which would mean being alone for a while.

Don't measure recovery time after a breakup.

You should always avoid “measuring” your recovery within a time frame.

"You shouldn't tell yourself 'It's been two months, I have to get through it now,'" she said.

At first, after a breakup, you don't really recover, you just start to see things clearly and that can be really painful. It's important to be patient and give yourself time, but also to stop setting any time limits.

Don't go back to your ex-partner.

Don't go back to your ex just because you miss their presence. Expert Moyce stressed that you should go at least two months without contact before you can think clearly about whether you want to be with your ex again.

Don't let loneliness make you believe that you have to go back there. You left for a reason and remember that reason. It won't be pleasant and comfortable at first, but change and personal growth definitely don't happen in our comfort zone.
