Over the past 18 months, Boom has successfully tested the XB-1 aircraft, and sold 15 of its 30-seat Overture models still in development to United Airlines.
Virgin Galactic and Rolls-Royce have reached a partnership agreement for the development of 19-seater aircraft. Even the Hermeus Quarterhorse, the supersonic aircraft that moves at the speed of sound or Mah 1, Telegrafi reports.
Last week, the Atlanta-based company unveiled a $60 million gift to the U.S. Air Force to fund and test the plane.
Hermeus is designed for a smooth ride, moving at speeds of 5.5 Mah 5 or 4.219 miles per hour. This made it the fastest plane in the world - and this trip from New York to London will take less than an hour.
This speed comes as a result of a special engine used in spacecraft that are launched into space. Hermeu has nine months to design, build and test its engine, based on the GE J85, and is two ahead when it comes to testing.
Quarterhorse has full autonomy – so a team can equip other prototypes and learn that there is no danger to the lives of the pilots. Currently, the testing of the small version is planned in 2023. /Telegrafi/
