On the 16th anniversary of Kosovo's Independence, the statue of President Ibrahim Rugova was unveiled on Saturday in Peja.
Rugova is considered one of the figures who contributed to Kosovo's independence.
Present were well-known figures of the Democratic League of Kosovo, members of the Rugova family, as well as hundreds of citizens.
The President of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, has said that the Republic of Kosovo is being honored with the statue of Rugova.
He further stated that the LDK, as his political family, is always proud of its historical leader, his ideas and his vision.
"On this blessed day, President Rugova, just as he was engraved forever in the heart of every Albanian, is being inaugurated engraved in bronze in the city where he completed his secondary education. In his vision, we still find the path towards Euro-Atlantic integration and relations with the allied countries. With the inauguration of the statue in Peja, we are honoring the Republic, as the Republic and Rugova are one", said Abdixhiku.
Meanwhile, President Rugova's son, Uka, said that this is a special day for their family.
"This day, which also marks the anniversary of the states' formal recognition of Kosovo, is a special day for our family. I congratulate the citizens of Peja for this statue, which they will enjoy. May God bless you all, but above all may he bless the allies of Kosovo, the USA and the European countries", he said. /Telegraph/
