The president invites party leaders for consultations about the election date, LDK confirms participation

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, has officially invited the leaders of the political parties to meet on July 31 for consultations on setting the date of the parliamentary elections. The participation in the meeting was confirmed by the leader of the LDK, who will present his party's position at that meeting.

Telegraph sources from the Presidency inform that in the letter sent to the party leaders, Osmani stated that based on the Constitution and the Law on general elections, the elections should be held during the period January 26-February 16, 2025.

In this regard, based on the constitutional powers for the announcement of elections for the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, the President has invited to a consultative meeting on July 31, 2024, at 14:00, in the Building of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo.

Meanwhile, the telegraph has asked the political parties to confirm whether they have received the letter from the president for the July 31 meeting.

LDK's spokesperson, Besian Mustafa, has confirmed that they have received the letter from the President and that the chairman of the party, Lumir Abdixhiku, will go to the meeting and present the party's position there.

Until now, all parties (LVV, PDK, LDK and AAK) have wanted early elections, but they have not been able to find a consensus on how to reach them.

In May of this year, the Democratic Party of Kosovo was in agreement that the elections should go through the dissolution of the Assembly, but not the Democratic League of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.

DK and AAK initially wanted the resignation of Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

The last national elections were held on February 14, 2021, when the Vetëvendosje Movement came first with more than 50 percent of the votes. The second party was PDK, the third LDK, and the fourth AAK. /Telegraph/
