Just one glass of fruit juice a day can help lower high blood pressure.

The condition causes few symptoms and can go undetected for years, but over time it can put sufferers at risk for stroke, heart attack and heart failure.

In addition to poor diet, lifestyle and stress thought to increase people's chances of developing high blood pressure, doctors will often prescribe lifestyle changes such as reducing salt and alcohol intake, eating more lots of fruits and vegetables, as well as more exercise.


New research conducted at the University of Toronto has shown that drinking moderate amounts of fruit juice on a daily basis can help lower blood pressure. For these results, the research team analyzed data from 93 previous studies that looked at 12 different sugary foods to understand how food choices affect blood pressure.

The report, published in the journal Plos them, found that moderate consumption of fruit juices containing natural sugars led to a "small significant reduction" in mean systolic blood pressure of 3.7 mmHg.

Blood Pressure UK has warned that up to two-thirds of Britons under 50 may be living with undiagnosed hypertension (the medical term for high blood pressure).
