German comedian Jan Boehmermann has received police protection after previously reading an obscene poem about Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

His poetry drew the ire of the Turkish authorities, with a police car parked in front of his house.

Previously, Erdogan has filed a criminal complaint against the satirist who has fueled a debate in Germany on freedom of speech, the eye reports.

German prosecutors are investigating whether he broke any laws that violate or insult foreign leaders.
