The number of heart patients increases in Albania, anti-covid vaccinations drop by 85%

The number of people hospitalized in public hospitals has increased for the period January - April of this year.

In this period, patient admissions increased by 17.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to the financial monitoring indicators for the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, for the first four months of this year, the number of patients admitted to hospitals was 86,392 patients, out of 73,556 patients who were years.

According to the indicators, the number of patients treated in cardiology has increased by 42 percent compared to the same period of 2021.

Compared to 2020, when the pandemic started, hospitalizations from heart patients have increased by 76 percent.

In the period January-April 2020, hospitalizations fell due to fear of the inflections of Covid-19. So doctors warned that after the pandemic, there will be an increase in heart surgeries, due to post-Covid-19 problems that should be treated in time.

"The disease of Covid-19 leaves short-term and long-term consequences in some systems and organs that must be treated in time. Among the post-Covid-19 consequences are metabolic and cardiac problems, which often lead to dramatic problems that require interventions such as bypasses, coronary stents", doctor Ilir Allkja said earlier to Monitor.

In this period, there was also a 4 percent increase in the number of people hospitalized in psychiatric hospitals. The psychiatrist at QSUT, Fatima Elezi, told "Monitor" that hospitalizations have increased due to the use of narcotics by chronically mentally ill patients who leave hospitals.

"The increase in hospitalizations in psychiatric hospitals is not affected by Covid-19. In psychiatric hospitals, this tendency always appears, the number of patients sometimes decreases and increases. This is because some chronic patients hospitalized in psychiatry who finish the treatment, return again for hospitalization, as their condition worsens due to the use of narcotic substances".

Ms. Elezi emphasizes that fear and anxiety were the main symptoms that appeared in patients with Covid-19 or experienced when their family members were infected. "These symptoms were treated by outpatient services. In psychiatry, until now, we do not have hospitalizations of patients with mental problems due to Covid-19", underlines psychiatry Elezi.

Primary care psychiatrists have admitted that after the earthquake, the increase in patients with signs of anxiety and panic increased in the country. Since the emergence of the pandemic, the number of patients suffering from anxiety is increasing.

Cancer screenings are increasing

Unlike the years 2020-2021, this 4-month period women's checks for breast and uterine cancer have increased. For this year, breast cancer screenings have increased by 54 percent and uterine cancer by 31 percent. In the first 4 months of 2022, there is also a 9 percent increase in patients treated with radiotherapy.

Oncologist Silvana Çeliku emphasized earlier that due to the fear of Covid-19 infections in 2020, but even last year, many women hesitated to perform screenings for breast and uterine cancer. According to her, the consequences will be felt in health, since Covid-19 prevented early diagnoses and risks increasing fatalities for those affected by various types of tumors.

Covid-19 vaccinations drop by 85 percent

For the months of January-April 2022, vaccinations have decreased by 85 percent compared to years. About 4 million dollars were spent on vaccination of the population in the first 2021 months of 14, according to data from the Ministry of Health. In total, 2,883,851 vaccinations have been carried out so far. In Albania, according to data from World Data, 47 percent of the population has been vaccinated, while globally 61% of the population is vaccinated. /Monitor/
