Everyone has an idea when it comes to who the highest paid footballers in Europe are, but the name that tops their list may surprise you.
World-class soccer players are extremely well paid, even though most of them are not among the highest-paid athletes in the world.
These are the ones who don't play in Europe, but that doesn't mean the biggest names in the Champions League don't make as much money.
Kylian Mbappe until he was part of PSG was the highest paid player in Europe. The Frenchman earned 60 million euros a year in Paris, and this does not take into account bonuses.
However, since leaving Ligue 1 to join Real Madrid, the 25-year-old is now on a salary of €26.3 million a year, which has seen him drop to third on the list.
That's because Frenkie De Jong earns €31.5 million a year at Camp Nou, making him the highest paid footballer in Europe.
De Jong's team-mate Robert Lewandowski is the second highest paid player, with the Pole earning around €28 million per season in Catalonia.
There is a significant difference between Mbappe and Harry Kane, who benefits from 21 million euros per year at Bayern Munich.
Next on the list are the duo of Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland, who are paid 20.8 million euros and 19.5 million euros respectively.
