The Basic Prosecutor's Office in Pristina has announced that the lawyer Shemsije Sheholli and the private bailiff Isak Islami have been arrested, who are suspected of having received 25 thousand euros in bribes on behalf of the Court.
Both suspects have been detained by the Prosecutor's Office for 48 hours.
"After a few months of work by the State Prosecutor and the Kosovo Police regarding the investigation of the case published in the media, where it is suspected that the amount of 25 thousand euros is requested on behalf of the members of the Court of Appeal in connection with the case of the injured BS , today on 02.12.2024, as a result of the investigative work Sh.Sh. and II"
According to the Prosecution, Sheholli and Islami are suspected of the criminal offenses of "Exercise of influence" according to article 424, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo (KPRK), and "Misuse of official position or authority" according to article 414, paragraph 1 of the KPRK -'s.
The investigation was led by the Head of the Department for Serious Crimes in the Prosecutor's Office of Pristina, Bashkim Zeqaj.
This case comes after a few days ago, the Disciplinary Commission for private bailiffs within the Ministry of Justice had made a decision to ban the practice of the profession for the bailiff Isak Islami for 7 months, due to the violations found in an enforcement order that resulted in withdrawal of 25 thousand euros from Besim Sopi's bank account.
Months ago, it was reported in the media that lawyer Sheholli was suspected of asking her client for 25 euros in bribes on behalf of three judges of the Court of Appeal.
This claim was reinforced by the publication of an audio recording of a meeting held on August 15, 2023 between Besim Sopi and lawyer Sheholli, approximately one month after the Court of Appeal's decision on the case in question, given on July 25, 2024.
Investigations continue while the authorities are in the process of fully clarifying the incident.
