The importance of origin, according to the case of Marko Boçari: Tonight I leave to fight against the Albanians!

From: Daut Dauti

In August 1823, Lord Byron was on the ship "Hercules", not far from the Greek coast, waiting for the moment to anchor somewhere in a suitable port. The ship had material aid and some English volunteers who came to help the Greeks' fight for independence. This was an organization of the Greek Committee, formed in London by the British Philohellenes. Lord Byron kept in touch with Marko Bocar as he planned to join his unit. In fact, Byron had no one else to join him, since the Albanians were among the most capable at that time, from those who fought for the independence of Greece.

On August 21, Byron, still in "Hercules", received a letter from Marko Boçari, who thanked him for the help he was bringing. In one sentence in this letter, Boçari emphasized: "Tonight I am leaving to fight against the Albanians".

And so it happened. Marko Boçari went to fight against the Albanians and they killed him that same night. This moment, which produced important consequences in the history of Albanians, has been misinterpreted because Boçari is considered a hero, while his killer, Lleshi i Black, has almost been qualified as a traitor and being left in oblivion. The question is: shouldn't it be the other way around?

If Marko Boçari declared to Byron, even boastfully, that he was going to fight against the Albanians, then what was his sense of ethnicity? And why Boçari gave his life for the independence of Greece? The Greeks did not force him to do this. Why didn't Boçari come out on the side of the Albanian forces that led the Bushatli people, against what today is known as the Greek Revolution?

Today we would not be talking about the origin of Irene Papasi if it were not for her conversation with Bekim Fehmiu. Only on one other occasion during her life did Papas declare that she is of Albanian origin and said one sentence: "Maybe I'm Albanian too". Aristidh Kola also mentioned its origin. And that's it. There is no more information about her origin.

Origin is not very important in today's circumstances. The facts show that the Albanians, more precisely the Arvanites, have not felt themselves strangers among the Greeks. If they denied the origin, which happened regardless of the reasons, they progressed to Greece.

But our tendency, to present at all costs and tirelessly, the great personalities of Albanian origin who have contributed to Greece and Serbia, or even elsewhere in the Balkans, is not a reason to boast. In fact, the opposite is true. These personalities contributed to the other side because their side of affiliation did not offer enough reasons to stay in it. And this should not be an occasion for boasting.

It is true that the Albanians founded the Serbian dynasty (the Karagjorgjevics) and the Serbian state, as well as the Greek state. But how much and why is someone Albanian who establishes the Serbian or Greek state, which essentially aims to annihilate that Albanian? Why should we boast about this and why should we mention this to the Serbs and Greeks? In fact, Serbs and Greeks should be proud because they have shown the ability to meet state and cultural needs with our people, turned to their side. The other interpretation says that the Albanians have not shown the ability to keep these people within their circle. It is the same today. /Telegraph/
