American Ambassador: Honored that Kosovo declared a day of mourning in honor of Madeleine Albright

In Kosovo, today is a day of mourning in honor of the life and work of the former US Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright. The American ambassador in Kosovo, Jeff Hovenier, said that the United States thanked the people of Kosovo for continuing to honor and preserve the memory of Mrs. Albright.

Hovenier, in a Facebook post, said Albright's leadership saved lives and established security and prosperity for future generations.

"The United States of America is honored by the decision of the Government of Kosovo to declare today a day of mourning in honor of Madeleine Albright, whose leadership saved lives and ensured security and prosperity for future generations. Thank you for recognizing Madeleine today and continue to honor her memory by building a prosperous, multi-ethnic democracy," said Hovenier.


The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has declared Friday, March 25, a day of mourning, as a mark of respect for the former US Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, who passed away on March 23.

State flags will be raised at half-mast in all state facilities of Kosovo, inside and outside the country.

Madeleine Albright was the first woman elected to the position of US Secretary of State in 1997.

She served in this position until 2001, under the administration of the former American president, Bill Clinton.

Albright was Secretary of State at the time when the NATO attacks on Serbian targets were carried out, which led to the liberation of Kosovo.

For her work for democracy and human rights, in 2012 she was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest civilian award in the USA.

For her contribution to the liberation of Kosovo, in Pristina, in 2019, on the 20th anniversary of the entry of NATO troops, a bust in her honor was unveiled in Pristina. /Telegraph/
