After the killing of the fighter Azem Galica in July 1924, his fellow fighter and wife Shota will leave for Albania.

"I am Shote Galica, the wife of Azem Galica, the leader of the Kaçak Movement of Kosovo. I live in Shullaz village of Kruja, I also have four orphaned children. They are the children of the fighters who fought for the liberation of Kosovo. I am forced to inform you that I am going to die together with my orphaned children" (sic.), is the request she addresses to Ahmet Zogut, the most powerful man in Albania.

On July 3, 1927, Shote Galica died in poverty in Fushë Krujë.

The photo you will see below was published for the first time in 1985, in the special edition of Rilindja, which marked the 40th anniversary of the founding of this newspaper.

It shows Shote Galica in Albania, immediately after Azem's murder. The photo was taken in July 1924 by Ali Kelmendi from Peja, who in June had supported Fan Noli's revolution and the overthrow of Ahmet Zogu from power. A year later, Kelmendi will go to the Soviet Union to become the "father" of the Albanian communists. /Telegraph/
