Denis Javier Varela Hernandez from Honduras, who is the father of the two-year-old who became the image of the crisis of separation of immigrant families, has announced that he has not yet heard from his wife and daughter, but that they are well and safe.

The 32-year-old father has announced that he has not contacted his wife Sandra and daughter Yanela Denise for three weeks, only that he saw a picture of them while they were being checked at a border point in Texas, reports the Telegraph.

"They have been sent to a detention center and are together, their condition is good and they don't have any problems," Hernandez was told by officials of an organization that deals with the settlement of immigrants.

According to him, his wife and daughter have never been separated and continue to stay together, but that he was "heartbroken" when he saw her crying at the border point.
