While it was hoped that the match would resume from the seventh minute of the meeting, where it was interrupted, such a thing will not happen.

After more than an hour of stoppage on Sunday at the Groupama Stadium, the match officials announced that the match would resume, however the referee changed his mind and decided on the permanent cancellation of the match.

"The referee decided not to restart the match, seeing that the safety of the players was not guaranteed," announced the stadium announcer.

Lyon could lose the match with a score of 3-0, because one of their supporters hit Payet on the head.

Tomorrow (Monday) an official decision is expected to be made regarding the fate of the match, which will likely take place without the presence of fans. /Telegraph/
