Controversial project in Hungary, Russia builds two new nuclear reactors

Russian nuclear power giant Rosatom will start construction of two new nuclear reactors in Hungary in the coming weeks, Hungary's foreign minister said.
The deal, reached between Russia and the EU state in 2014, aims to expand the existing Paks nuclear power plant.
Russia's nuclear industry not subject to EU sanctions over bloody invasion of Ukraine, reports bbc.
Moves to isolate and sanction its oil and gas exports have not been unconditionally supported by Hungary.
The country of Paks currently generates 40 percent of Hungary's electricity supply.
"Let the construction begin!" Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto wrote on Facebook.
With the two additional reactors, the nuclear plant - currently comprised of four Soviet-built reactors - will see its capacity more than double.
"This is a big step, an important milestone," Szijjarto added. "In this way we will ensure Hungary's energy security in the long term and protect Hungarians from wild fluctuations in energy prices," he concluded.
He added that nuclear reactors could be ready for service by 2030.
The controversial 12.5 billion euro project is mainly financed by Russia.
In the wake of the war in Ukraine, many EU states have tried to reduce their dependence on Russian energy supplies. /Telegraph/
