The Syrian Prime Minister declares that he is ready to transfer power to the opposition

Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi Jalali has expressed his willingness to cooperate with any leadership chosen by the people.

The statement came after rebels entered Damascus, took control of the capital and apparently toppled the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

The head of the Syrian government noted that he remains in the country and commented on the process of transferring power to a transitional government, which may include representatives of the opposition.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, Jalali said that he will go to his office to continue working, Telegrafi reports.

Among other things, the politician emphasized that the government is ready to reach out to the opposition and hand over the functions of a government to it.

"This country can be a normal country, building good relations with its neighbors and the world, but that depends on whatever leadership is chosen by the Syrian people. We are ready to cooperate with this leadership", said Jalali.

The Syrian Prime Minister also called on citizens not to damage state property.

Otherwise, despite widespread media reports of President Assad's alleged escape from Damascus on board a plane, the prime minister did not clarify in his statement whether the president had left the country. /Telegraph/
