The MEP, Richard Howitt, who these days is on a farewell visit to Macedonia, today stated that he expects the elections set for December 11 to be held, while the citizens have the relevant conditions for elections, Telegraph Macedonia reports.
According to Howitt, the elections on December 11 will be of special importance for the future of the country.
Regarding the exact date of the elections, he is of the opinion that this is the choice of Macedonian politicians.
"The EU prefers not to talk about the date of the elections since this is a selection of Macedonian politicians and local politics, but the date of the elections should never be seen separately from the quality of the conditions provided for the electoral process", said Howitt in the statement to the media in the EU Info center in Skopje.
He then added that he is not on the side of those political parties which are ready to cancel the elections in order to be sure of victory.
"The EU, OSCE and other international observers will be present here for the elections and during the election period and will observe what happens. We hope that their presence will give confidence to the population in Macedonia that they can make real choices", said Howitt.
He sent a message that there are continents in the European Union regarding the commitment of Macedonia. He expressed satisfaction with the inclusion of the recommendations of non-governmental organizations in the pre-election process.
Howitt also asked for support for the work of PSP and assessed that despite the right of MPs to speak and criticize, they should not underestimate Katica Janeva and her team.
Asked about the autumn report on Macedonia's progress, Howitt said he expects it to be published on time in November, but with a conditional recommendation. /Telegraph/
