The Austrian writer and his journey by car in the country with alleys: Albania in 1931

The Austrian writer Friedrich Wallisch (1890-1969) was born in Merish-Vajskirchen (Hranice) in Moravia (now in the Czech Republic). He served in the military fleet of Austria-Hungary and in 1914 he was in Albania, where he reported on the short reign of Prince Wied (Wilhelm zu Wied, 1876-1945).

After the First World War, he completed his studies in Austria in the branch of Medicine with a doctorate, but apparently never practiced this profession.

In the spring of 1923 he founded in Vienna the European Publishing House of Dr. Fridih Wallisch (Europäischen Verlag Dr. Friedrich Wallisch), which he directed for several years. He was also the author of poems, essays, stories, biographies, travelogues and plays. In 1929 he founded an Austrian-Albanian Association (Österreichisch-Albanische Gesellschaft).

Among his books of Albanian interest are: Der Adler des Skanderbeg: Albanische Briefe aus dem Frühjahr 1914 (The Eagle of Skanderbeg: letter from the spring of 1914), Lajpcig & Vienna 1914; Der Atem des Balkans: Vom Leben und Sterben des Balkanmenschen (Spirit of the Balkans: on the life and death of the Balkan man), Leipzig 1928; Neuland Albanien (New State, Albania), Stuttgart 1931; and Albanien und seine Postwertzeichen (Albania and its postage stamps), Vienna 1937.
