At least 19 people are believed to have died in a reported suicide attack at a cricket match in Kabul.

The T20 competition in the country's Shpageeza League was held at the Kabul International Cricket Stadium on Friday afternoon, with the explosion said to have occurred around 16pm.

Local media said four people were injured and none were killed.

There did not appear to be any major structural damage to the stadium

But UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the terrorist blast on Twitter, "which took the lives of at least 19 civilians and caused other casualties."

"Attacks against civilians and civilian objects are strictly prohibited under international humanitarian law."

Taliban spokesman Khalid Zadran told Reuters earlier in the day: "The match was stopped for a while."

Fans were seen leaving the affected section of the stadium, with some entering the pitch

"After cleaning the area, the match resumed".

Afghanistan Cricket Board chief executive Nassib Khan insisted all players and match officials were safe, with four injured in the crowd.

Officials downplayed the scale of the bombing, but the extent of the damage could not be estimated

Spectator video showed considerable disruption throughout the stadium after the bomb.

Local hospitals received 'many' casualties after the explosion, according to an envoy from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan. /Telegrafi/
