Surprise striker overtakes Lewandowski, Vinicius and Bellingham for most goals in 2024 without penalty

Artem Dovbyk may have won the Pichichi award last season, but he only narrowly edged out Alexander Sorloth as top scorer. Both were in contention for a move to Atletico Madrid in the summer, but it was Sorloth who ended up making the move permanent.

Sorloth has failed to become an undisputed starter since arriving at Atletico but is proving his worth, as he proved on Saturday.

According to the newspaper Marca, during the calendar year in La Liga, Sorloth is the top scorer in Spain excluding penalties.

In 2024, Sorloth has scored 31 times, ahead of Robert Lewandowski (29 goals), Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior (20 goals) – Osasuna's Ante Budimir has also reached 20 goals.

Sorloth cost 32 million euros from Villarreal this summer and has only started 9 times in La Liga and the Champions League.

Despite his lack of starts, Sorloth is still sixth in the Pichichi race this season, with 8 goals to his name. Lewandowski leads with 16 goals, followed by Raphinha (11), Ante Budimir (10) and Kylian Mbappe (10). /Telegraph/
