Fillkov: As difficult as they are, we must make the reforms in the Judicial Council

Minister of Justice Igor Filkov participated in the manifestation "Judicial Council - Challenges and recommendations for ensuring an independent judiciary".

In his speech, Filkov emphasized that it is necessary to focus on solving situations and problems and in the future there should be no doubts that could call into question the independence and professional behavior of the Judicial Council.

"Let's not lie, there is no reform that is not painful, but there is also no reform like this, so necessary. I want to say that we will implement the necessary reforms, however difficult they may be. And we will not stop until the citizens start with full confidence to look at the courts in the procedures for the protection of their rights", said Filkov.

The minister announced that public debates on the Law on the Judicial Council will begin next month, in order to find acceptable solutions, so that citizens' trust in the judicial system returns.

"From next month, we are starting public debates on the Law on the Judicial Council. Debates which will be expert and which I am sure will bear fruit, especially in the parts of the legal text dealing with disciplinary procedure, appeal procedure, selection and dismissal. We have seen these three aspects of the legal text as crucial from the beginning, so that we can go further with the steps towards restoring trust in the justice system", emphasized Filkov.

According to the minister, only by guaranteeing the independence and impartiality of this body will we succeed in restoring the legitimacy, professionalism and integrity of the Judicial Council, which, as he said, should be an example and enjoy the trust of the entire community.
