Sony preparing a "ReplayStation" system?

Sony PlayStation exclusives sell well in the first few weeks, but after that the numbers drop off significantly. A large number of players never finish their single-player adventures, so Sony is looking for a solution.

They seem to have found that solution in a new patent, a system they call "trigger point" in video games. These would be points similar to the classic "save point" mechanisms, but they would not be made by the player, but by the creators of the video game themselves. Each point can be associated with different parameters and would represent the start of a shorter activity.

Basically, this "replay" system means that you can "skip" parts of a video game if you meet the criteria to do so, and if you've already "changed" it, then you can only go back to the most interesting segments.

Sony believes that this kind of principle can help players who either don't have time to complete video games or don't have enough skills to do so, so the developer will e.g. could feature chapters that the player would fast-forward through at will.

This is, of course, just a patent that may not necessarily lead to something that will have everyday use.

However, it must be said that Sony has already started to think in this direction with the PlayStation 5 console, because the video games there support "activity cards", so the player is told each how long it takes to complete that chapter of the video game. /Telegraph/
