Italian police detained American rapper Snoop Dogg on Friday as he prepared to board a private plane to the UK with $422.000 in his suitcase, an Italian lawyer representing the rapper said.

In the European Union, the maximum amount of undeclared money to carry on a plane is 10.000 euros ($10.986).

Snoop Dogg, who is carrying out his European tour after the launch of the album "Bush" earlier this year, will have to pay a fine, Andrea Parisi, his lawyer, told Koha.net.

"We have clarified everything in terms of legal issues. The money comes from the concerts he has held around Europe. There is no crime here; it is an administrative violation," Parisi told Reuters.

Half of the money has been returned to the rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, while the other half is being held by the Italian authorities until the amount of the fine is determined, Parisi said.

Otherwise, Snoop in question was arrested a few days ago in Sweden on suspicion of using drugs and was forced to take urine tests after his concert held in Stockholm.
