The seven most common surnames in Spain – the most common female and male names

In 2021, Garcia was the first and second most common surname in the Iberian Peninsula, with about one and a half million, reports brand.
Below is a list of the seven other most commonly abused surnames according to the National Institute of Statistics.

As we can see, except for Garcia, all other surnames end in -ez. This ending arises in the Middle Ages, when the upper classes begin to use it from the 13th century. At that time, the last three letters meant "son of". Therefore, Rodriguez means "son of Rodrigo" or Fernandez "son of Fernando".
And the names? In Spain, the most common names for men are: Antonio (640,854); Manuel (562,798); Joseph (547,142); Francis (467,933); David (369,633); John (325,791); Javier (308,465) and Jose Antonio (303,446).
As for women, the most frequent name is: Maria Carmen (641,875); Mary (578,124); Carmen (366,259); Anna Maria (269,814); Maria Pilar (258,063); Laura (257,933); Josefa (254,603) and Isabel (253,995).
