Seismologist Mustafa: The earthquake had the potential to endanger citizens and cause material damage

Seismologist Shemsi Mustafa has announced that an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale hit the Prizren-Shtërpcë area tonight.
According to Mustafa, the earthquake was recorded at 22:05 local time and had an intensity of VI on the Mercalli scale.
He announced that the hypocenter depth was about 5 kilometers, while the epicenter was located about 23 kilometers east of Prizren.
"Based on the Seismological Network, the Kosovo Geological Survey and the Euro-Mediterranean Seismic Center, the territory of Kosovo has been hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 and intensity VI on the Mercalli scale," Mustafa wrote.
He emphasized that the earthquake was noticeably felt by citizens in Kosovo and had the potential to endanger citizens and cause material damage, due to its strength.
Mustafa added that this seismic activity proves that the Prizren area remains an active seismogenic zone, as predicted in the Seismic Hazard Map for Kosovo.
"These earthquakes testify to the seismogenic zone of Prizren, which is considered an active zone according to seismic studies and calculations," he emphasized.
Relevant authorities have called for calm, while the situation is being monitored for possible material damage and other consequences. /Telegrafi/
