The scientific researcher who graduated from Harvard, Ermal Frashëri, criticizes the initiative of the Academy of Sciences for rewriting history, thanks to the project presented as "History of Albanians".

Frashëri says that "an official story has the color of a totalitarian mentality".

"The seal of the Academy of Sciences is not a shield for history," he says.

Another problem, according to him, is the work group. Historians' names, he notes, should have been carefully chosen in a country troubled by its past.

"The project has excluded scientists from the diaspora and on the other hand it has names like Pascal Milo and Pëllumb Xhufi who have shown political protagonism at different times. To be clear, I have nothing personal with Xhufi and Milo, but the story is different. Xhufi and Milo have expressed themselves politically about the story. Of course, historians can have political opinions, but they cannot officially impose their personal position as history", says he has participated in several historical scientific conferences in Albania.

As for the last statement that Milo made about Mit'hat Frashëri's meeting with the Greek Napolon Zerva - who is known for the massacre of the Chams - Frashëri argues that Milo's approach is personal.

"Milo creates a sensation with Mit'hat Frashëri. He spoke about Zerva without giving the context; without giving reasons and circumstances. Milo creates insinuations. The meeting with Zerva during the war was not treason", he says.

Regarding Milo's statement on the letter of a partisan sent from Shkodra on November 29, Ermal Frashëri says that his approach to November 29 resembles a fetish, a kind of irrational obsession.

"The communists put November 29 as a symbol to distinguish it from November 28. There is still no consensus on what liberation is? Is liberation the taking of the city, is it a cease-fire? In this context, Milo is unbelievable", says Frashëri, while judging that at least for issues that Xhufi and Milo have expressed politically, they should not work on the history project.

The Albanian history project will take almost three years and will cost about 300 million ALL. /BW/
