Prisoners engage in firefighting in California

Many of the firefighters who work around the clock to fight the great fires in Los Angeles are incarcerated.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation told CNN that by Friday, nearly 1000 inmates were working to put out the fire.

Royal Ramey, who worked as a firefighter while incarcerated and was pardoned by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2022, spoke to American television.

"It's practically the same job," Ramey said when asked if inmates do the same job as regular firefighters.

"We are there. We are on the front line. We are using the tools. We will go out and do our job," he added.

Otherwise, California estimates that this program saves about 100 million dollars a year. /Telegraph/
