On April 7, 2011, the senior officer of the Kosovo Police, Atifete Jahjaga, was elected president of the country by secret ballot by the deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo.
Jahjaga was a joint candidate of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Democratic League of Kosovo and the New Kosovo Alliance. As is known, this name, previously unknown to the masses, came to the fore after the intervention of the former American ambassador, Christopher Dell, on the grounds of avoiding new parliamentary elections. The Constitutional Court of Kosovo had decided on March 28, 2011 that the election of Behgjet Pacolli as president of the Republic, in the session of February 22, was unconstitutional (though later, according to the former head of the Constitutional Court, Enver Hasani, Pacolli turns out to have been president and that there was no need to resign). Therefore, Jahjaga was seen as "salvation".
According to the agreement of the leaders of the three aforementioned parties - Hashim Thaçi (PDK), Isa Mustafa (LDK) and Behgjet Pacolli (AKR) - reached on April 6, Jahjaga's election was conditional on the formation of a Commission for the reform of presidential elections, which would draft any necessary legislation to amend the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, so that the president is directly elected by the people. The intentions were for this commission to complete its work within 6-9 months - from the date of its establishment.
This Commission never completed its work. But, even if he finished it, the Constitutional Court in July 2012 comes out with the decision that Jahjaga can complete the full five-year term, as the first of the state.
The choice of Jahjaga for president, as a consensus candidate or "from the envelope" - as is often mentioned - in normal states would never be expressed. However, in this ordinary anomaly for Kosovo, this decision was able to positively influence the political processes of Kosovo, since it belonged to an institution that is quite reliable among the citizens - the Kosovo Police - while it was not part of the politics and dirty games that damaged the country over the years. Her election also raised hopes among the citizens, that finally the rulers of Kosovo cannot fully realize their plans to rule at any cost and at any cost.
Hope soon faded. Because, the position and power turned out to be more important for Jahjaga than the truth and the well-being of the citizens of Kosovo. In this respect, her numerous blunders in public appearances can be forgiven. But not the lack of sincerity and the tendency to camouflage every failure of Kosovo's politics.
The president, who was not part of politics, was quickly indoctrinated with the thirst for power, with the comforts that the armchair of her position offers. She became a good spokesperson for the justification of any failure. She knows that being the president of a failed state is not a great honor, so she only talks about successes - a projection of reality, which maybe she has started to believe.
This is how the advisers may have learned, but this is no justification, as long as no international report is seeing these successes, especially the people who are suffering the most from policy failures. Ignorance can't be an excuse either, because the people have an answer for this too: they know for themselves, don't they!?
With what she knows, she communicates with a sense of evasion from reality. It is enough to read the communiques that come from the Presidency, from the meetings that Jahjaga has with foreign delegations, where in almost every one of them it is said that the president announced about "the important progress that the state of Kosovo has made since the declaration of independence". This part is sometimes modified, but the essence remains the same.
Agreed, in politics things are often camouflaged, but should the phrase "Kosovo is a success story of its citizens and institutions" be part of the discourse from which it never knows how to get out?
In Albania, a barsolete shows how the former communist leader, Enver Hoxha, had invited an old man to his garden to tell him fairy tales. The old man liked the garden with flowers, for which Enver Hoxha told him that he had made the whole of Albania like this with flowers. "Have I come to tell you fairy tales, or you to tell me fairy tales?" asked the old man.
Jahjaga had this experience with the "old man" on July 25, 2013, when he met the French president, François Hollande, in Bërdo, Slovenia. She also recites the "poetry" of success to him. He even made this declamation at a time when Kosovo's asylum seekers were living in misery and guilt under the bridges of France. But Hollande, who deals with concrete things and not with fairy tales, bluntly told him that the issue of those who are fleeing from his country is causing problems and that, among other things, this also gives Kosovo an ugly image.
This was her first encounter with a bitter truth, that her "poetry" does not drink water everywhere. But, she continued with the old avaz, as long as the communication with the citizens of Kosovo is mainly through press releases and as long as no Kosovo journalist has the courage to stop her "recital". It turns out that she has learned this evil school that all the rulers apply, of denying reality.
But, ZDF happened, a showdown with the most watched German television that would have to make Jahjaga and every demagogic ruler put his finger on the head to change for the better. While the topic of the conversation was the alarming numbers of the migration of Kosovo's citizens to Germany, Jahjaga, as always, showed how Kosovo has progressed a lot since the declaration of its independence - in every sector. But the German journalist who knows the truth, stopped his "recital".
This scandal was "only" seen by a few million Germans and a few million Albanians, for which another absurd reaction from the Presidency followed: the organizer and the translator are to blame! The ex-police, ex-law enforcer whose duty was to protect citizens and deal with facts, with the truth, appears innocent in her attempt to avoid reality! And who is to blame when, for example, she is applauded at the funeral ceremony? Guarantee Ahmet Zogu|
Since the president is innocent, the Presidency has made a bigger mistake by reacting. Because, in Kosovo, every miracle really lasts only three days. The demagoguery of the rulers will continue. The "poetry" of success will also be written in history. In the books, the children of tomorrow will read: among the many successes of Kosovo after the declaration of independence, it is the first appointment of a woman in the region and beyond to the post of the head of a state! The heirs to the "throne" will honor him! Well, one day maybe a mausoleum will be built for him.
Congratulations Kosovo for Teuta of the modern Illyrians!
