Peci: Real option to hold new elections on June 15

After the failure of two attempts to constitute a new Parliament, the acting Minister of Agriculture, Faton Peci, has stated that there are only two possible ways out of the current political situation: either the formation of a government by the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV), or going to new elections.

Peci said on Tëvë1 that the proposal of PDK leader Memli Krasniqi to hold elections on June 15 is a possibility that should not be ruled out.

"The other option that I think is real and that can happen is to go to new elections. I saw that the PDK leader has come up with a concrete proposal for June 15. I'm not saying that I support it, but I think it's not a bad proposal and it shouldn't be rejected," Peci declared.

He mentioned that this date is also appropriate due to the fact that it does not coincide with Liberation Day on June 12, which according to him is a proper consideration for respecting the national holiday.

Peci also emphasized that LVV is not making political calculations with the possibility of elections, but that every step taken is in accordance with the Constitution.

"It's not a calculation, it's a legal and constitutional issue. We are not here to cause legal and constitutional violations," he said.

Commenting on the blockade in the Assembly, Peci accused opposition MPs of sabotaging the process for political interests.

"We cannot vote for the mandates of other MPs, while they deny their own existence, attempting to damage the coalition and Prime Minister Kurti," he said.

The institutional crisis has entered its third week, following the last parliamentary elections, while the LVV and the opposition are unable to reach an agreement on the constitution of the Assembly and the formation of new institutions.
