OpenAI has become the latest company to follow the trend of restricting access based on user age.

OpenAI has begun the global rollout of an age prediction tool, with the aim of determining whether a user is a minor.

According to the company, the model evaluates a combination of behavioral indicators and account parameters, including: how long the account has existed, typical times when the user is active, usage patterns over time, and the user's self-declared age.

If ChatGPT incorrectly assesses a person as a minor, the user will need to submit a selfie through the Persona platform to verify age and correct the error.

Most artificial intelligence companies have initially introduced new features, and then added numerous safeguards and security measures only after there were problems.

OpenAI has also faced a lawsuit over the death of a teenager who was suspected of using ChatGPT to plan a suicide, and only in recent months has it begun considering automatic content restrictions for underage users and the creation of a mental health advisory board.

Now the company is preparing to introduce "adult mode," which will allow users to create and consume more explicit (NSFW) content.

Considering how similar changes have been made to other platforms like Roblox, it's possible that underage users will find ways to circumvent existing tools if they want to use ChatGPT as adults. /Telegraph/
