On Wednesday, the book "An Albanian in the CIA" is promoted

The biography "An Albanian in the CIA - the two lives of Destan Berisha" by the author Bashmir Xhemaj, this edition of the "Dukagjini" publishing house, is promoted on Wednesday (April 3, 2019) at 18:00, in the "Dukagjini" bookstore.

This book is about an Albanian from Prizren, Destan Berishas, who aligned himself with the American intelligence agency CIA, after the Second World War. The book is based on CIA archives and other sources with interviews in Kosovo, Albania, America, Germany, England and Greece.

Some of the writers and researchers who have had the opportunity to read the manuscript, have appreciated the narrative about the main character Destan Berisha and the large number of archival sources used. Journalist and author Ilir Ikonomi said about this book that "it is a very touching story, told simply and truthfully about a man like Destani, who reflects in miniature the suffering that Kosovo experienced over many decades".

The former mediator for the status of Kosovo, Ambassador Frank Wisner, whose father led the CIA operation in Albania in the 50s of the last century, of which Destan Berisha was a part, has said that he "welcomes an Albanian view of the events that rocked Albania in the late 40s and early 50s, when the US tried to overthrow the communist government. Americans, as well as Albanians, will benefit from a fresh review of that time in the history of the Cold War".

Historian and diplomat Bejtullah Destani says that "Bashmir Xhemaj's book is the story of the failed attempt to overthrow the communist regime in Albania. In this operation undertaken by the CIA and MI6, about 300 Albanians lost their lives. The Anglo-American instructors knew full well that they were sending the volunteers to certain death. Some survived and this is the story of one of them, Destan Berisha from Billusha in Prizren."

In the promotion of the book on Wednesday, in addition to the author, some prominent names of history, journalism and public life in Kosovo will speak. /Telegraph/
