ON THE NAKED HILL

Heinrich Heine (1797–1856) (Drawn in 1828 by Hans Kugler)
Poems by: Heinrich Heine
Translated by: Sinan Vaka
To the north over the bare hill
A lonely spruce rises
He dreams completely white and drunk.
Misty with snow embracing.
He dreams of a palm tree, he dreams,
Far away to the oases in the east,
The hermit endures the snow, endures
Go to the grave with longing and conviction.
