Nine days after the elections, the CEC is far from counting diaspora votes

Even though nine days have passed since voting day, the Central Election Commission (CEC) has not yet set a date for the start of the process of counting votes from the diaspora, conditional votes, and votes from people with special needs.

According to CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi, the counting of these votes can only begin after the evaluation of votes received from outside Kosovo is completed.

So far, about half of these votes have been verified.

Regarding conditional votes and those of people with special needs, Elezi explained that their counting will begin after the counting of regular votes is completed at the municipal counting centers.

"The counting of votes from outside Kosovo, conditional votes and votes of persons with special needs will begin after the completion of the counting in the municipal centers and after the evaluation by the CEC voting service is completed. I cannot set an exact date, but we will inform you as soon as everything is ready," Elezi declared in a press conference.

He emphasized that the CEC is making maximum efforts to complete the process as quickly as possible, ensuring an accurate vote count.

"In addition to speed, it is important that the will of the citizens is accurately counted," he added.

According to CEC data, the number of citizens registered to vote outside Kosovo was 104,924.

Of these, 20,324 people were registered to vote at diplomatic missions, while 15,352 people exercised their right to vote. 84,600 voters were registered by mail.

Also, the number of envelopes with ballots from conditional voting is 12,801, which will be verified by comparing them with the list of voters signed at regular polling stations.

Meanwhile, the votes of people with special needs total 2,597.
