Where the inspiration for the Tesla Cybertruck design came from: Patent drawings reveal what they 'copied'

It may not have been "designed by aliens from the future," as Elon Musk said.
The American manufacturer surprised car fans when it introduced a prototype of the Cybertruck electric truck two years ago.
The controversial body shape, with many broken lines and sharp edges, has divided the public, but few have remained indifferent.
Although this isn't the first time an automaker has chosen such a specific design, given the look of Tesla's previous models, the Cybertruck wasn't expected to have this shape.
The company's CEO, Elon Musk, said in his own style that the vehicle looks like it was "designed by aliens from the future."
However, the body shape has already been used in the past, albeit mainly on sports cars from the early 1970s.
Musk even admitted that the electric truck's design was inspired by the Lotus Esprit model, specifically the amphibious version from the James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977).
In 2013, Musk just bought that car at auction for $865,000.
However, some patent drawings protected by the US Intellectual Property Office reveal other designs that may have inspired the Tesla Cybertruck model, writes Fox News.
One such car was designed by Vito Carabetta and a 1979 patent drawing shows a connection to models such as the aforementioned Lotus Esprit, but also the Lamborghini Countach and DeTomasso Pantera.
Also interesting is the patent drawing by Juan Javier Gaytan, which shows the "triangular" cargo space cover on the truck.
The shape of the hood is irresistibly reminiscent of Cybertruck.
Another drawing from the patent office reveals a possible inspiration for Tesla's truck.
It is an unusual vehicle designed by Alain Clenet.
As for the production version of the Cybertruck, the latest news is that series production will most likely be delayed to next year, and it remains to be seen to what extent the prototype model will be copied in the vehicle that will appear on the market. /Telegrafi/
