"As of today we are launching 5G networks in North America with live traffic," explained Börje Ekholm, president and CEO of Ericsson.
“The technology is here and there is more to come. We are indeed moving to 5G in 2019.”
The company has 10 live contracts for 5G — more than any other vendor, Ekholm said — and has hired 4,000 engineers in R&D to increase its presence.
Ericsson is launching nine new radios at MWC.
5G will fuel a flurry of new applications, including AR and gaming. New 5G networks move beyond the consumer space, however.
"The increasing use of robotics will dramatically transform future manufacturing systems," he said.
It's more than selling SIM cards, in other words. This is about changing society itself. /Telegraph/
